Charlotte L. Thompson

Charlotte Thompson, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on July 25th at the age of 78, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and community spirit.

Born on November 29, 1946, in Chicago, IL, Charlotte was the daughter of Charles Sr. and Naida (Wieder) Krieman. Later that same year, the family moved to Pine Lake in Wild Rose, Wisconsin, where they began building the Char Char Naid Resort—a heartfelt family endeavor that included two cottages and eight boats. The family charged just $1 per day for boat rentals, with a humble honor system: guests would place their money in a hole in the garage. It was here that Charlotte began forming lifelong memories and friendships, including with notable guests like John McGivern.

By age 10, Charlotte had mastered the art of water skiing. She was well-known for her daring tricks—always performed using a slalom as her signature style. Her family still cherishes her antique water ski and the photos capturing her adventurous spirit.

Charlotte graduated from Wild Rose High School in 1964. Known for her perseverance and sense of humor, she often joked about being Mrs. Mielke’s “helper”—even if she didn’t always succeed the first time. She graduated with the prestigious Betty Crocker Award, a fitting tribute to her warm and nurturing personality.

In 1969, Charlotte married Dennis A. Thompson, and together they had three daughters: Becky Webie, Tammy Wilkinson, and Wendy Thompson. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Haeleigh Monroe, Jacob Webie, and Austin Webie. After her divorce, Charlotte raised her daughters with strength and love, faithfully attending every sporting event and concert at Wild Rose School District to support them.

Over the years, Charlotte held a variety of jobs that showcased her many talents. She cooked at Pine Lake Lutheran Camp, worked for Bell Telephone in both Illinois and Wisconsin, a baker at D&B Foods, and eventually retired from Shelmet in 2011. Even in retirement, she remained busy—teaching knitting and crocheting at Fox Valley Technical College. She always enjoyed scrapbooking, card-making, and woodworking in her free time as well.

Known affectionately as "the sewing lady," Charlotte had an unmatched ability to mend or create anything—whether it was a wedding dress, prom gown, or a pair of jeans. Her crocheted baby blankets were a treasured gift for every new baby in the family. She was always the first to offer help—family, friends, or neighbors knew they could count on Charlotte for anything, and she never let them down.

Charlotte also gave her time and talents to her community, volunteering with the Wild Rose Historical Society and the Over 50 Reunion. Her deep knowledge of local families and history made her a valued member of these groups.

Charlotte’s warmth, generosity, and spirited sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters Becky Webie, Tammy (Joe) Wilkinson, and Wendy Thompson; her grandchildren Haeleigh (Alex) Monroe, Jacob Webie, and Austin Webie; her beloved grand dogs Tatum, Zeus and Watson and many cherished relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father Charles & Naida Krieman, son in law John Wilkinson, Dennis A Thompson, Laurel & Verna Thompson, Donna Schultz, and Debbie Johnson.

The family would like to thank ThedaCare Hospice and the Berlin Oncology & Radiology teams for the compassionate care they provided Charlotte during her final months.

A celebration of life will be held on August 23rd, 2025 from 1:00pm-3:00 pm at the Wild Rose Community Center. Come share memories of Charlotte and her sassiness.
