Plainfield

Craig Davis Mitchell Sr., 69, of Plainfield, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on August 14, 2026, with his loving wife and best friend by his side, exactly one month after being diagnosed with cancer. Born in Canton, Illinois, on February 28, 1957, to Laura and Paul Mitchell, Craig made his home in Plainfield in 1980, building a life defined by hard work, and an unwavering devotion to his family.

From a young age, Craig knew he wanted to be the best father he could possibly be—and he exceeded even his own expectations. On March 8, 1975, Craig married the love of his life, Melanie. Together, they shared 51 wonderful years of marriage built on deep love, loyalty, and true partnership.

After moving to Plainfield, Craig worked for Midwestern Farms. He went on to spend the majority of his career as a dedicated Project Manager for Fahrner Asphalt, where his strong work ethic served him well for many years , he also worked for Bartsch Farms before he eventually retired from the Town of Plainfield.

Craig was a man of many talents. He was a gifted handyman who could fix anything that broke, and an excellent pool player who spent many years playing league. In his younger years, he spent his free time hunting and fishing. Throughout his life he held a special passion for muscle cars, especially Ford Mustangs, he enjoyed going to car shows with his son and grandson - the three Craigs. Above all his hobbies and accomplishments, Craig’s family was his absolute greatest joy.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Melanie; his three children, Terri Jo Mitchell (Rob), Craig Mitchell Jr. (Amanda), and Rachel Fletcher (Jeff); his dog Piper and cats Missy and Boots; his siblings, Julie, Paula, Donna, Darcy, Paul, and Dawn; his cherished grandchildren, Zachary, Mackenzie, Macie, Cree, Craig III, and Carter; his great-grandson, Kasey; and another great-grandson expected soon.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Tina.

Craig is now waiting for his family in heaven, with his cherished dogs, Brutus, Frank, and Mustang, by his side. His legacy lives on through the family he adored, and the endless love he gave as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
