Doris J. "Dorie" (Schley) Wedell

Oct 24, 1938 — Oct 20, 2026

Formerly of Wautoma

Our precious mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Doris “Dorie” Jean Wedell, has gone to heaven to be reunited with her beloved husband, Gene.

Dorie was born near Neshkoro, Wisconsin, on October 24, 1938. She was the oldest daughter of Fred and Elsie (Hoeft) Schley and was the oldest of five children. She was raised on the family farm near Wautoma, and graduated from Wautoma High School with the class of 1956.

Dorie met the love of her life, Eugene “Gene” Wedell, in high school. They were united in marriage on February 15, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wautoma. Together, they shared nearly 27 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, faith, and hard work, until Gene’s passing in 1984.

Dorie and Gene welcomed four children into their family. They introduced their children to the responsibilities of farm life and the importance of their Christian faith. Early in their life together, Dorie and Gene operated a 172 acre farm, growing strawberries, green beans, pickles, peppers, onions, and other vegetables.

Dorie was a lifelong and avid gardener who took great pride in growing both vegetables and flowers. Throughout her working years, she also held several other jobs, including department store and factory work, as well as trimming Christmas trees. After Gene’s passing, Dorie moved away from the farm. She found enjoyment in painting ceramics and became especially talented at making homemade cards, sharing her creativity with family and friends. Eventually, she moved to the Fox Valley area to be closer to her three children.

Dorie was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wautoma and later Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Appleton. Her life reflected the values of family, faith, perseverance, and the simple joys of home.

Dorie is survived by three children: Sue Wedell; Randy (Becky) Wedell; and Bonnie (Gary) Kosiorek. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Melanie (Fernando) Teran; Benjamin (Beth) Kosiorek; Jared Wedell; Abbey Kosiorek; Meagen (Sam Nolden) Seabul; Tyler (Kristina) Kosiorek; and Mitchell (Elizabeth) Kosiorek. She will also be lovingly remembered by her numerous great-grandchildren.

Dorie is further survived by her sisters, Teri Jo (Tom) Fendler of Wautoma and Beverly (Dennis) Kropp of Neshkoro, along with other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear family members.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene “Gene” Wedell, in1984; her infant daughter, Linda Fay Wedell, in 1958; parents, Fred and Elsie Schley; sisters, Shirley Eger and Deloris Long; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Dale Wachholz, Norman Eger, Jerry Long, and Yvonne Wedell; and parents-in-law Lillian and Ervin Wedell.

Dorie will be laid to rest beside her beloved Gene at Wautoma Union Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Stahl Celebration and Remembrance Center in Wautoma. Visitation will be held immediately prior to the funeral service from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
