Elizabeth E. Ingersoll

October 31, 1928 — May 16, 2026

Plainfield

Elizabeth E. Ingersoll, age 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Cranberry Court in Wisconsin Rapids.

Elizabeth was born on October 31, 1928, in the town of Almond to Anthony and Gladys (Walker) Wallner. She grew up on the family farm south of Plainfield, moving there with her family in 1932. One of eight children, Elizabeth was part of a large, close-knit family that helped shape her lifelong values of faith, service, and dedication to others.

She graduated from Plainfield High School and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. Elizabeth dedicated her professional life to education, teaching in Hancock, Almond, the Tri-County Area School District, and a rural school in Arnott. Her impact as a teacher touched many young lives across central Wisconsin

Faith was at the heart of Elizabeth’s life. She was a deeply devoted member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church, where she served in countless roles over the years—including chairperson of the advisory council, choir member, church school superintendent, and teacher in both church school and Vacation Bible School. Her commitment extended beyond her local church through her active involvement in United Methodist Women at both the district and local levels.

Elizabeth also had a strong commitment to her community. She faithfully served as a Village of Plainfield Trustee for 20 years, contributing her time and voice on numerous committees. She was also a member of the Plainfield Library Board and the Waushara American Cancer Society, always finding ways to support and uplift those around her.

Her service extended even further through her longtime involvement with the Gideon Auxiliary, which she joined in 1973. Over the years, she held many leadership roles at the local level and went on to serve as both president and vice president for the state of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula.

Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Kimberly (Russell) Freeman, Larry (Denise) Sanchez, and Lance (Kristie) Sanchez, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren: Hailey, Derek, Dalton, Glenda, Landon, Julian, Alexa, and Kiara. She is also survived by her step-son, Stephen (Susan) Ingersoll, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, Barb (Ed) MaKaryk and countless dear friends whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Merlin W. Tunks and Wilbur “Bill” Ingersoll; her daughter, Glenda Faye Sanchez; and her siblings: Donald (Dorthy) Wallner, Walker (Donna) Wallner, Jean (Ellsworth) Barden, Lauretta (Lowell) Detlor, Dorothy (Raymond) Helmrick, Mary (Pat) Smith, and Carol (Donald) Klabunde.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday June 6th at 11:00 a.m. at the Plainfield United Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Elizabeth will be laid to rest in the Plainfield Cemetery, beside her husband Merlin. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Plainfield United Methodist Church would be appreciated.

Elizabeth’s life was one of faith, service, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to her family and community, and the lasting difference she made in the lives of so many.
