Eugene “Zak” C. Zacharias, of Wild Rose, passed away in the comfort of his home on December 30, 2025, at the age of 74.
Eugene was born December 29, 1951, in Rhinelander, WI; son of the late Richard and Jean (Westbrook) Zacharias. He grew up in the area where he attended local schools and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1970.
After high school, Eugene entered the workforce. He worked for Rhinelander Paper Company for 42 years. On July 21, 1973, he married Ann Salacinski in Tomahawk, WI. The two welcomed two children to their family; a son, Benjamin “Ben” and a daughter, Karie.
Eugene loved all Wisconsin sports teams! He could often be found cheering for the Brewers, Packers, Bucks and Badgers. He even dedicated many years to coaching youth baseball. When enjoying some quieter moments in life, Eugene enjoyed the peacefulness of fishing. Above all else, Eugene simply loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Eugene is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his son, Ben (Nicole) Zacharias; his daughter, Karie (Luke) Madden; and his grandchildren, Jaylon, Jasmine, Ashley, Nathan, Jaxon, and Josh. He is further survived by his sisters, Clare, Marilyn, Barb, and Julie, and many other loving family members.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jean; and his brother, Sam Zacharias.
For those wishing to express their sympathies, the family kindly suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Kathy’s House Inc. in Milwaukee, WI. This organization, who cared for Eugene’s family while he was in the hospital for cancer treatment, holds a special place in their hearts. Donations can be made online at kathys-house.org.
Services for Eugene will be held at a later date.
