Jack A. Sherman, age 79, of Plainfield, passed away May 20, 2026 at Tomah VA Medical Center.
He was born May 22, 1946 in Little Rice, Wisconsin the son of Henry and Thelma (Giffey) Sherman. He married the love of his life, Bernadette M. Schulist on October 23, 1970.
Jack grew up in Bancroft and graduated from Tri-County High School in 1965. His love for his family, community and country was displayed by his dedication of playing sports, coaching and serving his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
An accomplished high school athlete he enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, football and was a thrower in track. His love for sports continued after high school as he would still compete and then coached local youth sports teams. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jack enjoyed, playing cards, woodworking and reading along with hunting and fishing in his younger days. He also enjoyed collecting baseball caps of his favorite teams, businesses and funny sayings. Jack will be fondly remembered for his contagious laugh and continuous harassment of those he loved.
Jack was a lifetime member of the Plainfield VFW Post 6007 and a brief member of the Hancock/Coloma American Legion Post 343. He was also a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Plainfield.
Jack is survived by his wife, Bernadette M. Sherman; his son, James (Wendy) Sherman; his daughter, Jacklyn (Jeremy) Hanson; his loving grandchildren, Sierra (Nate) Kats, Dane Sherman, Ty, Drew and Evan Hanson; two brothers, Harvey (friend, Dee) Sherman and Dale (Joni) Sherman; his sister, Myra (Cal) Zwetz; special friends, Bill Hall and Mick Richtmyre; other special nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Ted, Nancy, Fred, Nola, Lyle and Pete.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 9:00 a.m. Jack will be laid to rest in the St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials to the Old Glory Honor Flight (Yellow Ribbon Honor Flight) EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, monies can be sent to the family who will donate the total amount in Jack’s name.
