Ruth H. Tubbs

Ruth H. Tubbs passed away July 23, 2026, after a struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Ruth was born on February 19, 1928, in Chili, Wisconsin, to George and Hazel Osterhaus, the 7th of eight children. The family moved to Plainfield in 1929.

Ruth graduated from Plainfield High School in 1945. She attended Stevens Point Teachers College in 1946. She married Bernard Bender on March 29, 1947 and later welcomed their children, Diane, Michael and Philip Bender. Bernard passed away in 1952.

She later married Clifford Tubbs in 1956 and welcomed children, Rita and Douglas. Clifford passed away in 2004.

She is survived by one brother, Jack Osterhaus (Martha), her children, Diane F. Weekly (Tom), D. Michael Bender, Philip W. Bender (Debra), Rita J. Robinson (Harlan) and Douglas C. Tubbs; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many friends.

Ruth was employed by the US Postal Service for 25 years – 12 years as Postmaster in Plainfield. Ruth was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Plainfield and served as choir director for 32 years. She served as Trustee on the Plainfield Village Board for 12 years and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a Master Gardener.

Ruth had many hobbies including: gardening, sewing, crafts, walking group, theater, reading, and a life-long love of music.

She loved her family and friends. She will be missed.

A Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at the Plainfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with services at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch in the church basement. Private burial by family will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend our appreciation for the special care given to our mother by the staff at Heartland House-Wautoma and the Compassus Hospice Care Team.
