Milan "Mike" Dornik Obituary

Milan (Mike) G. Dornik, age 88 of Hancock, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Thursday morning, March 11, 2021 at his home. He was born January 13, 1933 in Lyons, Illinois, the son of Joe and Eva (Kedro) Dornik. He married Donna M. Poad on October 12, 1957 at the church in Hancock. They celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Mike was a 1950 graduate of Riverside Brookfield High School in Riverside, Illinois. He received an Engineering Degree at DeVry Institute of Technology Chicago, Illinois. He was employed (Sales Division) at Richco Plastics Company of Chicago, Illinois for 35 years.

Mike and Donna lived in Glenview, Illinois for 34 years, where they raised their three sons. Mike and wife, Donna, retired to Hancock, Wisconsin on his parents’ old homestead, built a ranch home and enjoyed retirement for 26 years. He served in the Korean War as Army, 101st Airborne Division stationed in Germany. Mike was also a member of Hancock/Coloma American Legion Post 343 and the Lions Club of Coloma. After the Korean War, Mike played/pitched hardball for the local Hancock, WI. baseball team.  The team had an opportunity to play against the Chicago White Sox minor league team where Mike pitched and won.  Mike was recognized and recruited by the Chicago White Sox.  Mike also coached and played 16 inch softball for many years in Illinois, went to State and national tournaments. Mike was an avid outdoorsmen,he loved farming and hunting.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Donna Marie Dornik, Hancock, Wisconsin; children, Jack Dornik, LaValle, Wisconsin, Jim (Susan) Dornik, DeForest, Wisconsin, Joe Dornik, Johnsburg, Illinois; grandchildren, Taylor Dornik, Scottsdale, Arizona, Travis Dornik, DeForest, Wisconsin, Matt Dornik, DeForest, Wisconsin, Zachary Dornik, DeForest, Wisconsin; step-grandsons, Jack Spangler, Stoughton, Wisconsin, Cole and Leah Spangler, Stoughton, Wisconsin and his cat Shadow. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents and relatives from Czechoslovakia.

Memorial Services will held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield with full military honors.  Inurnment will be in the Hancock Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.  Per the family's request masks are optional.  Please visit www.stahlfuneralhome.com to share your condolences with Mike’s family.
