Richard "Dick" Bentley Obituary

Richard “Dick” J. Bentley, age 77, of Plainfield, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 17, 2021 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point after battling complications from an infection.

He was born March 22, 1944 in Milwaukee the son of Ralph and Mabel Matuskee Bentley.  He married Ireta M. Golla on December 28, 1963 in Plainfield and together they raised four children; Mike, Chris, Scott and Missy.

Dick grew up in Plainfield where he attended Tri-County Schools.  He had originally served a Plumbing Apprenticeship then worked in the Pipe Trades for 41 years as a UA Local 434 member until his retirement.  He was also a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Plainfield.

Dick will be greatly missed by his wife Ireta Bentley, his children; Mike (Jamie) Bentley, Chris (Janelle) Bentley, Scott (Holly) Bentley, and Missy (Tom) Moore, siblings; Donna Stratton, Pat Wagner, Tom (Bev) Bentley, and Roger (Denise) Bentley, numerous grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many special friends throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his sister Sue Cotter, both parents, and some very special friends and relatives that have been patiently waiting to reunite with him once again.

Dick enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life including hunting, fishing, building and racing stock cars, motorcycling, boating, pulling trucks, trap shooting, burning out, reading, drag racing, rebuilding motors and restoring classic vehicles.  He was a self-taught “body man” and had painted dozens of vehicles in his home garage.  Most any internal combustion motor was of familiarity to him and he was extremely mechanically inclined.  He was well known for his welding skills yet quite humble about it at the same time.

He also had a rather unique personality.  Was a gifted story teller in his own right who could wittily and skillfully banter about most any nonsensical topic.  A very humorous and comical man who truly enjoyed making everyone around him laugh.  Dick was an entertaining conversationalist and had a certain charisma about him.  He could spontaneously connect with people quite easily and as such had many, many friends.
