Thomas J. Verhasselt, age 73, of Hancock, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, June 8, 2023, at his home with his loving family at his side.
He was born January 27, 1950, in Fond du Lac, the son of Bernard and Marjorie (Schleinz) Verhasselt. He married Waltra K. Eilbrecht on October 11, 1969, in Fond Du Lac.
Thomas grew up in the Fond Du Lac area and later moved to rural Hancock where they built a home and lived for 43 years. Thomas and Waltra created a beautiful place to live where all the family and friends came to celebrate, visit, and hunt. He was employed at the Nekoosa Papermill for several years until his retirement. He served in the Army National Guard. Thomas was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Thomas’s favorite time of the year was the start of hunting season where he would always be out in the woods in his hunting stand.
He is survived by his loving wife, Waltra K. Verhasselt, Hancock; his children; Nicole (Scott) Shuma, Belvidere, Il. and son Walter Verhasselt, Westfield; his loving grandchildren, Andrew (Erin) Verhasselt, Jessica (Steve) Gianos, David Shuma, Derik Verhasselt, and Riley Verhasselt; his loving great grandchildren, the two little lights of his life; Adelyn Verhasselt and Gabriella Gianos; his siblings, Paulette (the late, Rick) Neis, Diane (Gary) Halfman, Elmer Verhasselt, Gregory Verhasselt, and Roger (Marilyn) Verhasselt; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Marjorie (Schleinz) Verhasselt.
